SUNY Sullivan science faculty join local March for Science

SUNY Sullivan science faculty joined the Middletown March for Science on April 22, part of an international day of science marches scheduled on Earth Day to protest any attempt by President Donald Trump’s administration to minimize or discount the value of scientific evidence and research. Debra Lewkiewicz, chair of SUNY Sullivan’s Division of Science, Technology, and Mathematics and a biology professor, said the faculty felt they must rise up to show the world they stand united for scientific progress. “As educators, our duty is to enlighten and empower students with knowledge and the ability to think critically. We must resist any segment of society that seeks to advance ignorance instead of knowledge,” Ms. Lewkiewicz said.
